Nicole Oxendine
Founder & Director
Nicole Oxendine has been a proven and acknowledged dance professional, instructor, choreographer, curriculum specialist, movement theorist, and entrepreneur. Nicole pursued a career in dance at Hollins University in Roanoke, VA, studying psychology and dance. For Nicole, it was more than just getting the physical training and understanding of dance, it was understanding how the mind and the body are connected.
Under the tutelage of Donna Faye Burchefield, Nicole studied movement recall for dancers for her major thesis work, and the Black female relationship between hair and self. She trained under, Mark Haim, Andrea Woods-Valdes, Donald McKayle, Jenefer Davies, and Marlies Yearby. Nicole has also performed with David Dorfman and worked with Mark Morris Repertory. She received her ballet training with Teresa Ruth Howard, modern and hip-hop under Nicholas Leichter, and African dance with Baba Chuck Davis.
Santese Pryor
Managing Director
Santese Pryor brings a wealth of athletic experience and academic achievement to her role as Managing Director at Empower Dance Studio. With 14 years as a competitive cheerleader and 11 years as a track and field scholarship athlete, she understands the dedication and discipline required for success in the arts and athletics. Santese holds a Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training and a Master of Science in Physical Education: Athletic Administration from North Carolina Central University.
In addition to her extensive background in athletics, Santese has coached cheerleading at Brogden Middle School for three years and has spent eight years coaching USATF and AAU Track. Her leadership experience includes serving as a Graduate Assistant for the Athletic Training Education Program during her graduate studies and as an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Kinesiology and Recreation Administration for two years.
Passionate about group training, community engagement, and personal growth, Santese leverages her diverse skills and experiences to implement outreach programs at Empower Dance Studio. She is dedicated to making a positive impact in the community while fostering a culture of discipline and teamwork among young dancers.

Kyra Alston
Student Support Director
Kyra has danced throughout her life and education. A Durham, NC native, Alston trained intensively through her high school career, studying and performing with the esteemed Durham School of the Arts Dance Company. Her studies continued at North Carolina Central University, where she focused on dance education. Alston has worked for over 6 years in Durham Public Schools. The same system that provided her quality foundational training is honing her skills as a dance educator through working with students of all backgrounds and abilities. Recognizing the positive guiding influence that dance has provided in her own life, Alston’s great joy is to nurture, instruct, and support students in their own dance studies. Finding a kindred home for her teaching in Empower Dance Studio’s mission of making dance accessible for all students, Alston brings her teaching expertise and experience to children’s classes. In her classes she focuses on meeting each student where they are, with the hope of sparking a love of dance that will stay with them throughout their lives.
Elizabeth Bailey
Administrative Coordinator
Elizabeth Bailey (she/her/hers) is an accomplished dancer, choreographer, and instructor at Empower Dance Studio, based in Raleigh, NC. She holds a BFA in Dance with a concentration in Choreography and Performance, along with a minor in Natural Science Composite from East Carolina University.
With a robust artistic foundation, Elizabeth has been teaching various dance styles since her early years and has embraced full-time instruction since graduating.
As a proud member of ShaLeigh Dance Works since 2023, she performed in the world premiere of enVision: The Next Chapter at the American Dance Festival. She served as the Winter Resident Choreographer for Apex Dance Company and has been recognized with the "Excellence in Choreography" award from the Star Dance Alliance. In addition, Elizabeth premiered original works at the Fall Dance Festival in both 2023 and 2024 in Atlanta, Georgia, and participated in the Footprints Concert at the American Dance Festival with Tatiana Desardouin’s Path to P[e]ace. Her journey also includes a transformative dance exchange program in Nairobi, Kenya, with Dance Centre Kenya and Project Elimu.
At Empower Dance Studio, Elizabeth is dedicated to nurturing the artistic abilities of her students, aligning with the studio's mission to foster self-confidence and a love for dance. She believes in the power of connection in the arts and is excited to share her passion, helping young dancers cultivate their unique talents as they embark on their own artistic journeys.
